Families are invited to dive into the heart of Bristol this Easter for the Wonderful Water Festival, a free celebration of the power of water to sustain life and inspire creativity.
Running from Wednesday 9 April to Saturday 19 April, the festival will transform Sparks Bristol into a hub of activity, offering an eclectic programme for all ages including craft workshops, interactive experiments, dance performances, talks and exhibitions.
The event is produced by Broadmead Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with John Wesley’s New Room and Sparks Bristol. Rooted in themes of sustainability and community, the festival showcases the creative talents of local artists, schoolchildren and community groups, many of whom have contributed artwork made using recycled and sustainable materials.

Throughout the festival, visitors can take part in a series of free, hands-on workshops. On Wednesdays (9 and 16 April, 12 - 4pm), Bristol Water will lead engaging science experiments exploring how water behaves and how it can be cleaned using natural materials. Participants will also learn practical tips for saving water at home, helping them to make positive changes to their consumption of water.
On Fridays (11 and 18 April, 12 - 4pm), families can contribute to a collaborative mural celebrating Bristol’s waterways. Visitors are invited to create their own artwork or textile pieces to add to the display or take home.

On Saturday 12 April, the festival presents a joyful and imaginative dance production suitable for children aged 2-8, led by Dancing Strong Movement Lab. This participatory performance uses storytelling and movement to explore the importance of clean water and the natural water cycle. Two 45 minute workshops will take place at 2pm and 3.30pm. Booking is recommended.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, visitors can expect surprise street performances from aquatic-themed characters, including mermaids and deep-sea divers, bringing a splash of theatrical magic to the city centre.
Vivienne Kennedy, Director of Broadmead BID, said: “We’re delighted to be working with such fantastic partners on the Wonderful Water Festival to bring these joyful, free activities to the city centre during the Easter holidays. Sparks Bristol is such a vibrant space and it’s fantastic to see it filled with creativity, learning and community spirit. The festival celebrates water in a way that’s both inspiring and accessible and it’s a great opportunity for families to explore important environmental themes while having fun together.”
