Redcliffe & Temple Business Improvement District (BID) is a business-led initiative which exists to manage and improve the Redcliffe and Temple areas of Bristol.
The overall aim of the BID is to improve and enhance the area for the benefit of the business community. The aspiration is for it to be known not only as a thriving commercial district but also as an outstanding community.
Following a successful ballot in April 2021 when 89% of businesses voted in favour, the BID started its first term on 1 June 2021 and will run until 31 October 2025.
Redcliffe & Temple BID operates under the governance of Visit West.
The BID aims to deliver well managed, outdoor spaces for all to enjoy. Projects are delivered to make the area more attractive and the BID seeks additional funding to realise lasting, ambitious improvements.
Our dedicated BID cleansing team is much appreciated by businesses year-round, providing dedicated graffiti removals and targeted jet washes. We continue to enhance the area with projects including our winter lights installation, Summer on the Quay furniture, and the development of art murals in the area.
The BID helps businesses to operate more sustainably by working closely with the successful and pioneering schemes already in operation in Bristol, and delivers initiatives to encourage a responsible business community.
Our collaboration with Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership offers tailored support to businesses with their climate action plans and delivers free to attend events to share practice insights and peer support on crucial topics.
Other projects include improving the city’s outdoor spaces with projects such as the installation of our Green Wall on Redcliff Street in 2024 and ongoing work on wildflower meadows at St Mary Redcliffe Church. We also support sustainable travel through Dr Bike sessions and encourage single-use waste reduction with our ‘Bring Your Own Lunchbox’ campaign.
The BID aims to put the area on the map, creating an identity that will be strongly promoted. Events like Bristol Light Festival, Bristol Harbour Festival, and Festival of Nature animate the streets, giving the area a real sense of place, where staff and the whole community are proud to work and spend time.
Our partnership with Bristol Light Festival attracted over 275,000 visitors in 2024 with an economic benefit to our city of ~£10.4M.
In 2023 and 2024, a giant 15 ft ‘Elf on the Shelf’ was featured having fun high above Redcliffe and Temple buildings over Christmas.
The BID gives businesses a strong collective voice, ensuring that consultations are shared and that business views are heard.
Projects include sharing plans, initiatives, and developments proposed for the area, working with key stakeholders to maximise all opportunities for businesses, delivering networking events for all staff in the BID area, and employee access to our free online training hub.
Businesses in the area want to improve the area for their employees and recognise their responsibility to the wider community. The BID delivers projects aimed at increasing staff safety and well-being as well as supporting those in need.
The BID’s dedicated PCSO and Streetwise Intervention Officer continue to support businesses. Safer Business Action Days, Counter Terrorism Training and Night-time emergency first aid have also been coordinated to support businesses, and 100+ free radios continue to connect levy payers. In 2024, a new Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) Manager joined the team who coordinates a city-wide approach to tackling business crime.
Our TAP for Bristol initiative supporting homelessness prevention in the city has raised and donated over £150,000 since its inception in 2019.
To help with employee well-being, we host a popular programme of regular lunchtime events including yoga, wellbeing walks, tai chi, and sound bath sessions.
