Job title: Volunteer Officer
Reporting to: Volunteering Manager
Hours: 0.8FTE / 29 hours per week, with some weekend working (this role includes at least 12 days of weekend work a year, arranged with your line manager). This role does need the postholder to be on site at least 3 days per week to be able to connect with volunteers (who are on-site 7 days per week).

Summary: To be the first point of contact for those interested in volunteering at the SS Great Britain Trust and play a key role ensuring that the recruitment and induction journey is efficient, engaging, and transparent.
As volunteer supervisor to Visitor Experience, Being Brunel and Musician volunteers, you will support and supervise these volunteers and help promote an excellent visitor experience.
Main Tasks:
- To assist in growing our volunteer team in line with organisational need. You will play a key role in developing recruitment content and coordinating the promotion of volunteering opportunities. This may include attending recruitment fairs and other events.
- Actively recruit volunteers from new groups or communities, supporting the aim of increasing diversity and inclusion amongst the volunteering team.
- To support the delivery of recruitment days and group inductions for new volunteers.
- To accurately maintain the volunteer database and ensure effective record keeping, in line with GDPR.
- To process volunteer expenses, and other tasks associated with administration of the programme.
- Prepare rotas and conduct daily briefings to ensure all volunteers are fully aware of activity across site.
- To ensure volunteers are suitably equipped; ordering uniform and badges as necessary and maintaining the volunteer mess room.
- To coordinate our annual programme of training, update events and socials for current volunteers in collaboration with the Volunteer Manager and volunteer supervisors.
- To assist the team in recognising, celebrating, and valuing the impact of our volunteers. This could include writing up success stories to share with key stakeholders, compiling material for newsletters, sharing appropriate data with partners and running reports which demonstrate volunteer impact.
- To get to know the volunteers, build relationships and create a supportive, collaborative environment for volunteering.
- Liaising closely with the Visitor Experience team, to ensure volunteer briefings are covered and volunteers are adequately supported on site.
- To assist the Volunteering Manager and take on other duties as reasonably required.
Person specification
- Excellent communicator; both written and oral. High level of attention to detail.
- Excellent organisational and administration skills.
- Strong team player, whilst also being able to use your own initiative and work independently.
- Passionate about the benefits of volunteer involvement, to the organisation and those involved.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective, working relationships.
- Influencing, diplomacy and negotiating skills.
- An ability to problem-solve.
- Strong IT skills.
