Family fun: Archaeology Adventures, egg-citing crafts, children’s trails and audio guide

New for 2025, Archaeology Adventure gives children the chance to become real archaeologists, digging for replica Roman artefacts in a specially designed excavation trench. Taking place from 14 to 17 April in the underground Investigation Zone in the state-of-the-art Clore learning centre this hands-on activity will take young explorers below street level to uncover the secrets of Roman Britain. Tickets cost £6 per child in addition to entry to The Roman Baths, and pre-booking is highly recommended.

Throughout April, families can embark on a new interactive trail, inspired by Luna, the goddess of the moon. Illustrated by local artist Ben Pulletz, Luna the globetrotter will guide young visitors on a journey through the Baths, discovering the fascinating connections between Roman culture and the moon and stars.

From 14 to 17 April, children can also take part in egg-citing crafts, inspired by a remarkable discovery: a 5th–6th century teal’s egg unearthed in the Great Bath during a 19th-century excavation. Little creatives can decorate their own paper eggs, inspired by this ancient artefact.

With hands-on activities, a special children’s audio guide, and Roman characters to meet, young history hunters will love exploring this ancient site. Plus, with family-friendly afternoon teas at The Pump Room Restaurant, shopping treats for all ages, and a discounted family ticket, The Roman Baths offers a great value day out the whole family will enjoy.

Easter Evenings: Experience the Baths by torchlight

As the sun sets over Bath, The Roman Baths will stay open late over the Easter weekend, offering visitors a chance to experience the historic site in a whole new light.

From 18 to 21 April, the Baths will remain open until 8pm (last admission at 7pm), with the Great Bath illuminated by flickering torchlight, creating an atmospheric and unforgettable evening.

A pop-up bar will be serving chilled Champagne, prosecco, soft drinks, and indulgent hot chocolates daily from 12 noon to 7.30pm— the perfect way to soak up the historic surroundings.

For the first time, visitors can also enjoy an evening guided tour, diving deeper into the site’s 2,000-year history and uncovering the stories of its past after dark.
