This Easter, an egg-citing adventure awaits beneath the surface in The Illuminated Cave!
Join Cheddar Gorge & Caves for a one-of-a-kind underground egg hunt in Gough's Cave, where giant eggs glow and dinosaurs and ancient creatures light up the darkness in a dazzling display.
Running from 4 April– 21 April during the Easter school holidays, this fun and interactive trail will keep the whole family entertained.
Explorers of all ages will follow a magical trail deep below ground, hunting for clues to uncover the legendary Golden Egg.
Along the way, little adventurers will crack a secret code to help them find the Golden Egg, while older kids and adults discover fascinating facts about the illuminated ancient creatures that roamed the Earth.
Everyone who "unscrambles" the mystery will be rewarded with an Easter treat!
And the fun doesn’t stop there—get crafty with Easter-themed arts and crafts. Kids can create their own decorations to take home.
This is an Easter event not to be missed.

Don’t just hunt for eggs—discover a whole new world!
The Illuminated Cave is included in the price of a day ticket, which gives access to six exciting attractions.
- Explore Gough’s Cave, our spectacular stalactite show cave where Cheddar Man, Britain’s oldest, most-complete human skeleton was unearthed and find out about his amazing DNA discovery
- Discover our new multimedia experience, ‘Yeo’s Journey’ in Cox’s Cave that tells the captivating story of how our iconic caves were formed and evolved through the ‘power of water’
- Learn how our ancestors lived and survived at the Museum of Prehistory.
- Venture up the 274 steps of Jacob’s Ladder to The Lookout Tower and the Cliff-Top Walk where you will enjoy stunning views of the gorge and Mendip Hills - a landscape that has been millions of years in the making!

- The trail runs daily from 10am-4pm (last entry is 4pm). Arts & Crafts run from 10am-4.30pm.
