Job title: Development Manager
Reporting to: Director of Development
Hours: Flexible, we will consider someone part-time (0.6FTE, 21.75 hours per week) to full-time (36.25 hours/5 days per week).
Job type: Maternity Cover, 12 month fixed term.
Salary: £36,000
Summary: To play a key role in maximising income for the SS Great Britain Trust through Corporate, Trust and individual fundraising. You will enjoy providing supportive line management to two fundraisers, and you will work across the Trust to gather project information to present to funders. You will be a persuasive and influential communicator who enjoys building and deepening relationships with funders.
Main Tasks:
- Work with the Director of Development to grow income across a range of income streams, with a particular focus on Trusts and Foundations, including multi-year grants, unrestricted and restricted income.
- Lead the team in prospect research, developing qualified prospect pipelines across income streams and driving new funding approaches.
- Maximise opportunities with Corporate supporters. Work to develop existing Corporate Partnerships, and identify opportunities for growth and achieve new income across Memberships, Sponsorship and Corporate Trusts and Foundations.
- Achieve results through persuasive and compelling applications and proposals and creating robust budgets. Amplify project impact through detailed monitoring and inspiring reports.
- Advance relationships with funders both personally and through guiding colleagues, the Leadership Team, and Trustees.
- Develop and manage high-quality cultivation, engagement and stewardship plans for existing donors and new funders.
- Design, deliver and support a range of unique events to inspire supporters and cultivate new relationships, bringing to life the work of the Trust.
- Strengthen the team through line management of the Development Officer and Development Assistant.
- Develop excellent working relationships with colleagues in order to create compelling fundraising proposals about the work happening across the Trust.
- Be a best-practice fundraiser, leading by example with CRM processes, knowledge of GDPR, and expertise in Fundraising regulations.
- Support the team through additional duties as reasonably required to assist the smooth and efficient running of the Trust and maximise the impact of the fundraising function. Some weekend and out of hours working may be required.
Person Specification:
Knowledge and experience
- Experience of delivering fundraising income against targets across multiple income streams
- Experience of writing trust funding applications, developing corporate funding proposals and creating funder reports
- Experience of fundraising from individuals and developing new fundraising products
- Knowledge of the broader fundraising landscape and trends.
- Ability to analyse and interpret complex information to create compelling and exciting proposals to ‘WOW’ a range of funders.
- Experience at working collaboratively and building effective working relationships with different teams, directorates, senior leaders and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of prospect research and developing successful cultivation plans to inspire funders and secure funding.
- Keen to amplify the work of the team through line management, sharing of ideas, knowledge, and best practice.
- Experience of managing a database
- A working knowledge of GDPR
- Experience of planning an annual schedule of events and activities to deliver a strategic plan
Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in a friendly and professional manner
- Excellent writing and proof-reading skills, with the ability to tailor approach as necessary
- Excellent organisational and administration skills
- IT proficient with good knowledge of Microsoft packages including Excel spreadsheets, Teams and Canva, and excellent skills working with a database
