The council’s Park & Ride service, Highways and Contact Teams have received recognition from local residents after achieving high rankings in a national satisfaction survey.

More than 800 residents took part in the National Highways and Transport Network Satisfaction Survey, the largest survey of local opinion around transport and highways in the UK. Randomly selected residents from each participating authority received a survey in the post. This year’s survey had 96 local authorities taking part.

The speed and quality of response from council staff has been ranked best in the country, with Bath’s quick and easy Park & Ride services ranking second for the second year in a row. Highway gritting and Public Rights of Way achieved third place rankings. All 30 satisfaction scores relating to highway maintenance were above the average score achieved by all 96 authorities that took part.

Results from the survey also gave top ten satisfaction scores to the council for how easy it is for residents to get in touch and find something out, or to report a problem. Residents gave low satisfaction scores for traffic levels and congestion. The survey results can be seen on the NHT website.

The council has now taken part in the national survey seventeen times, and over the last three years has seen an increasing number of its satisfaction scores reach above the survey average.

Councillor Manda Rigby, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “We’re pleased to see so many positive results and continuing improvement overall, but it’s also shown us areas we can do better. We’re thrilled to see the quality and speed of response by council staff come out on top in this year’s survey, achieving the highest score out of almost 100 local authorities, and our Park & Ride keeping its 2nd place spot for another year. I’m very proud of the teams and would also like to thank all the residents that took the time to complete the survey and ask those residents who receive a survey in the post this year to please take part.”

Bath has three Park & Ride sites, Lansdown, Newbridge and Odd Down, each offering services every 15 minutes throughout the day directly into the city centre. They have a combined total of 2,806 car parking spaces, which are free for those using the service. The services reduce congestion during key events, like the Bath Christmas Market.
