In the 54 years since the SS Great Britain returned to Bristol, the SS Great Britian Trust has taken forward the work of the pioneering volunteers who saved the ship, transforming a rusting hulk into one of the city’s leading visitor attractions and a groundbreaking story of maritime history and conservation. Alongside the ship is the Brunel Institute, the Dockyard Museum, the Being Brunel interactive experience, plus café, gift shop, and event facilities, collectively creating a unique cultural experience.

The Trust is now looking to shape a new vision and mission for the future. This will include continuing to protect the heritage assets under its care, but also providing new platforms for widening engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders, diversification and growth of its commercial portfolio, digitisation of key functions across the organisation to achieve greater efficiency and improve key management information, a new approach to marketing and communications, and greater focus on fundraising and its integration across the wider organisation.

The newly created role of Director of Marketing & Experience will be pivotal in defining and achieving our ambitions.

About the Role

Our new Director of Marketing & Experience will have responsibility for developing and delivering the best experiences in the world for broad and diverse audiences. Through outstanding storytelling, communication, marketing and programming skills, they will push the boundaries of expectation, initiating events and programmes that excite supporters and visitors alike.

You will have strong leadership and management skills and an ability to inspire your teams to take some risks in their pursuit of an exceptional experience. This is a unique opportunity requiring outstanding skills, both strategically and through delivery.
