Easton Community Centre, owned and operated by Eastside Community Trust, is now home to Ababo’s Cuisine, an Ethiopian café that has quickly become a beloved spot in the local community. Established in early 2024 by Meriam Ababo, the café serves authentic Ethiopian dishes made with love and care.
What started as a passion for sharing the vibrant, rich flavours of Ethiopia has blossomed into a thriving café that not only offers delicious food but also a warm and welcoming atmosphere. After gaining popularity at local events such as the Bristol Harbour Festival and Bristol Refugee Festival, Meriam took the next step by bringing her culinary vision to the heart of Easton Community Centre, a key venue in Eastside Community Trust’s efforts to serve and support the local area.
First-time visitors are encouraged to try Misir Wot, a hearty and flavourful spiced lentil dish served on freshly made injera (a traditional Ethiopian pancake), which offers a perfect introduction to the authentic tastes of Ethiopia.
“Our house in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia was always full of people and delicious food and the kitchen was the heart of our home. Now, I’m honoured to bring that same spirit of hospitality to Easton,” said Meriam Ababo, owner and head chef. “Each dish is a piece of home and I’m so happy I get to share these flavours with the community.”
Ababo’s Cuisine serves a variety of traditional Ethiopian dishes, many of which are naturally gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free and vegan. Meriam also offers halal options, making her café a diverse and inclusive destination for all members of the community.
“Delicious, hearty and fresh food with a warm welcome. A great range of options for vegetarians, vegans and meat-eaters alike. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable meal!” raved one satisfied customer.
Eastside Community Trust has also created a family-friendly environment, with a small play area for children, allowing families to enjoy a meal together in comfort.
In addition to its regular café service, Ababo’s Cuisine is also available for private catering, offering a unique and memorable option for events and gatherings.
“We’ve been so pleased to see how Ababo’s Cuisine has become a cornerstone of the Easton community,” said Stacy Yelland, Chief Executive Officer, Eastside Community Trust. “It’s not just about food - it’s about creating a space where people can come together, connect and enjoy each other’s company.”
