The Wave in Bristol has announced that it will be running more Women-Only surf sessions in 2025 than ever before. Due to popular demand, the ‘slice of the ocean’ will be running seven of its Sister Sessions takeover afternoons – more than doubling the 2024 series.

The first event will be on 12 February, with The Wave opening exclusively for the female surfing community. There will be a wide range of surfing lessons and sessions available from 1pm-9pm – making it the first Sister Sessions event to include night surfing under the lake lights that were installed in autumn 2024.

As well as surf lessons and sessions, from Beginner up to Advanced Plus settings, there will be the option to join free yoga sessions, enjoy the saunas, try out Reformer Pilates for free, Surf Skate tuition, and the chance to quiz the wonderfully supportive female Wavemakers about surfing, in the ‘Ask Me Anything’ sessions. There will also be music from female DJs, bringing a brilliantly upbeat vibe to the day.

The Sister Sessions were born out of a desire to encourage more women and girls to take up the sport – and a huge amount of feedback asking for women-only sessions. Getting more women and girls into surfing is vital for the sport and surf culture, as well as hugely beneficial for the women themselves. Creating communities where women feel supported by other women, and where they have a huge amount of fun together, is a part of this.

Hazel Geary, The Wave CEO, comments:

“Surfing in the UK and globally is still a predominantly male sport and we are looking at what we can do to change this. The growth in the number of women’s surf clubs across the country shows there is a real desire for the support and camaraderie that women get from surfing together. We have created these Sister Sessions to offer a supportive female space for those that feel they want or need it as they progress on their surfing journey. 1hIt’s fantastic to see the community that is developing around them, and I’m so pleased we have been able to offer even more sessions this year.”
