Westonbirt, The National Arboretum, owned and managed by Forestry England, is delighted to announce the appointment of Dan Crowley as their new Curator.
Effective from the 1 November, this appointment follows an extensive search, interviewing a number of high-quality candidates.
Former Westonbirt Dendrologist, and more recently the arboretum’s Tree Conservation Manager, Dan has been appointed not only to curate Westonbirt’s tree collection but also to continue his work delivering on conservation objectives befitting a world-leading botanic institute. As an arboriculturist and conservationist, he has proven expertise supporting Westonbirt Arboretum and Forestry England’s conservation work both nationally and internationally.
Andrew Smith, Director of Westonbirt Arboretum says:

We have found the right Curator to help us realise our vision to be a world leader in trees. We are delighted to see him take up this vital role as the next guardian of this historic collection, nurturing and curating over 15,000 specimens within a unique picturesque landscape.”
Dan Crowley adds:
“I am hugely excited to take on the role of Curator at Westonbirt. It is a great privilege to do so and a responsibility that I take very seriously. I look forward to continuing to develop the collection for the benefit of future generations and ensuring that we fulfil our role as a modern botanic garden as we push towards our vision to be a world leader in trees. ”
This role will also support existing and future conservation objectives of Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest, continuing to provide a crucial link between the National Arboreta and Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI), enhancing Westonbirt and Bedgebury’s roles in global tree conservation.
