Audiences are set to be mesmerised by the adaptation of Charles Dickens’ beloved Christmas story, performed by hundreds of animated drones and narrated in the unique style of Matt Lucas.

A Christmas Carol will take place from 19 - 21 December at the Seat Unique Stadium (Gloucestershire County Cricket Club) in Bristol.

Following hugely successful sell-out drone light shows in Bristol, Cardiff and Nottingham last winter, the team behind Evolution returns this year with a magical, festive show suitable for all ages. The new, much longer show reimagines the classic tale and will take audiences on a heart-warming journey with miserly Ebenezer Scrooge on Christmas Eve.

Matt Lucas comments: “I am thrilled to be narrating this new and exciting take on a Christmas classic. Using drones to tell a traditional story is brilliantly inventive and a glimpse into the future of entertainment. It’s a magical way to bring friends and family together during the festive season, and I’m sure it will delight everybody."

Celestial (creators of drone light shows for brands across the globe) is the world’s first entertainment studio to use drone technology to tell epic stories in the sky, and together with Yuup (the local experiences company) and venue partner Seat Unique Stadium, are bringing A Christmas Carol The Drone Light Show to Bristol for the first time.

John Hopkins, Celestial’s Founder & CEO, comments: “A Christmas Carol is a beloved tale that has been retold across various genres. This time, it is uniquely presented through drone art, elevating it beyond a traditional drone light show to an epic, stadium-scale experience. This innovative artistic medium brings audiences together through a shared sense of wonder to celebrate a universal story of human transformation.”

Dominic Mills, Founder and CEO of Yuup, adds: “Over 60,000 people have now viewed our previous Evolution shows, and each show gets bigger and better, extending the length considerably from our early productions. We are thrilled to have Matt Lucas narrate this unique show, adding an extra layer of magic to the experience.”

Neil Priscott, CEO of Gloucestershire CCC, said: “The reactions to the shows at the end of 2023 were unbelievable, and we’re proud to be a part of such a unique event. A Christmas Carol is going to be an incredibly special experience for everyone who gets to see it! It’s a new way for everyone to enjoy festive fun this Christmas, especially with Matt Lucas as the narrator.”

The event takes place from 19 - 21 December at Seat Unique Stadium, home to Gloucestershire County Cricket Club. An early and late showing is available. Gates will open at 14:30 (early show) / 19:00 (late show), with food and drink outlets serving a variety of refreshments. A live DJ will play ahead of the 45-minute show, starting at 16:50 (early show) / 20:45 (late show).
