Arnolfini, Bristol's renowned contemporary arts centre, is delighted to announce a captivating programme of live events for Autumn 2024. This season promises an exhilarating exploration of diverse artistic expressions, from immersive performances and compelling film screenings to thought-provoking artist talks and participatory workshops.
Key Highlights:
What Are You Looking At? (Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September) - Visual artist Angela Charles shares her story of unexpectedly losing her sight, and her experience of ‘coming out’ as a blind artist after years of hiding it as the self-proclaimed Queen of Bluff. Over the course of the film Angela explores notions of seeing, as she navigates a new creative path, and questions our preconceptions in asking us, ‘What are you looking at?’
There will be a preview event on the evening of Friday 13 September, including an in-conversation between Angela Charles and filmmaker Liberty Smith.

Siobhan Davies: Film Works (Friday 27 September) - A very welcome return to Arnolfini by the renowned choreographer, to present two works on film: Transparent (2022) a dazzling autobiographical collage, in which Davies unravels the complex processes and influences that underpin her life’s work in dance and All This Can Happen (2012), based on Robert Walser’s novella ‘The Walk’ (1917). The screenings will be accompanied by a short talk with the artist.

Keira Green: Máthair (Friday 25 to Sunday 27 October) - In 1954 an Irish woman travelled alone to England to give birth in secret in a Catholic Mother and Baby Home in Bristol. She then returned to Ireland having given up the baby to the nuns. This event is the departure point for Keira Greene’s film Máthair (2024). As the daughter of the child who was left in the home, Greene traces her family story along the matrilinear line, the resulting film enters into the gaps in memory and record.
There will be a preview event, with opportunity to meet the artist, on Friday 25 October, 6:30pm to 8pm. The film will then be shown on loop across the weekend, 11am to 6pm. Keira Greene will also run a workshop, We Pass the Frame, with poet Kimberley Campanello on the morning of Saturday 25 October.
