Stage and TV star Wendi Peters, who stars as Mother Superior in Sister Act The Musical, and the Sisters from the hit stage show took in the sights around Bath city centre this week whilst visiting the Theatre Royal for a run of sixteen performances, which extends until Saturday 17 August.
Dressed in their stage costumes, Wendi Peters and fellow cast members Jayne Ashley, Esme Laudat, Amber Kennedy, Ceris Hine and Sheri Lineham delighted tourists and locals as they stopped off at visitor hot spots including Bath’s Toot Sightseeing Bus Tour, the Roman Baths and the Thermae Bath Spa.
The Broadway and West End musical is midway through a two-week run at the Theatre Royal Bath, where the cast have been receiving rave reviews for their performances.
Based on the iconic film Sister Act, the sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, sisterhood and music tells the hilarious story of a disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder. Under protective custody she is hidden in the one place she won’t be found – a convent! Disguised as a nun and under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.
Joyous and uplifting in equal measure, Sister Act features original music by Tony and eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken (Disney’s Aladdin, Enchanted) and songs inspired by Motown, soul and disco. Based on the Touchstone Pictures Motion Picture written by Joseph Howard, the stage show features lyrics by Glenn Slater with book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner, and additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane.
The cast of Sister Act is led by Wendi Peters - best known on screen for her roles as Cilla Battersby Brown in Coronation Street and Cook Jenkins in Hetty Feather - who plays Mother Superior in the musical. Landi Oshinowo, whose many stage credits include Matilda The Musical and Shrek the Musical, stars as Deloris Van Cartier, joined by Alfie Parker as Eddie Souther, Ian Gareth-Jones as Curtis Jackson and Eloise Runnette as Sister Mary Robert. The cast also features Isabel Canning as Sister Mary Patrick, Julie Stark as Sister Mary Lazarus, Phillip Arran as Monsignor O’Hara, Kate Powell as Sister Mary Martin of Tours, Jayne Ashley as Sister Mary Theresa, Elliot Gooch as TJ, Michalis Antoniou as Pablo, Callum Martin as Joey, Esme Laudat as Michelle, Amber Kennedy as Tina, Harvey Ebbage as Clemont and Joseph Connor as Cop and Bartender. The company is completed by Ceris Hine, Sheri Lineham, Corrine Priest and Samuel John-Humphreys.
