Bristol Old Vic will host a free celebration event on Thursday 5 September marking the end of the three-year National Lottery Heritage Fund project, Unscripted: A Performative History of Bristol, Bristolians and Bristol Theatre.

This event is open to the public and will take place at Bristol Old Vic, showcasing the project's achievements through interactive displays and exhibits.

The Unscripted project uses heritage as a tool to help foster integration and a greater understanding of Bristol between its newer and older inhabitants. It has highlighted Bristol's rich history through collaborations with local nurseries, schools, refugee and migrant support organisations, and partners such as the University of Bristol Theatre Collection and Bristol Archives.

It challenged the way in which history is traditionally told, documented, owned and displayed. Everything from using wind machines with three-year-olds, chatting about great nights out with older adults, examining the toppling of the Colston statue with teenagers and making iced tea syrup with women who have experience migration.

“This celebration marks a significant milestone for Bristol Old Vic and our community partners,” said Hatty Welsh, Heritage Participation Producer at Bristol Old Vic. “We invite everyone to join us in celebrating Bristol’s heritage and the communities that made Unscripted possible.”
