The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta has announced the shortlisted locations for this year's community launch programme. Following hundreds of public nominations, the Fiesta will honour the city's unsung heroes by offering them a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fly in hot air balloons, taking off from nominated locations across the city from Monday 5 to Thursday 8 August.

The Fiesta's community launch programme will feature morning launches from shortlisted locations including, Vassal's Park, Hengrove, Elm Park, Westbury-on-Trym and Somerdale Pavillion in Keynsham. These locations were chosen based on public suggestions and their suitability for balloon take-offs.

In addition to the locations, 18 remarkable local heroes, nominated by the public, have been selected to enjoy this one-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  These individuals have been recognised for their exceptional contributions to their communities, whether through acts of kindness, bravery, or inspiring others.

As with all hot air balloon events, the final plan for these launches is highly dependent on weather conditions, particularly wind direction. As a result, while the shortlisted locations have been announced, the final decision on which launch sites will be used will be made the night each scheduled flight. The Fiesta cannot guarantee that all shortlisted locations will host a community launch, but every effort will be made to include as many of the shortlisted locations as possible.

Ben Hardy, Executive Director of Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, commented: "We are delighted to unveil our very first series of community launches and celebrate the incredible individuals who make Bristol such a vibrant and compassionate city. This initiative not only highlights our city's heroes but also brings the magic of the Fiesta closer to the heart of our communities."

The 2024 Bristol International Balloon Fiesta will take place from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 August at Ashton Court Estate, featuring the iconic Nightglow events on both Friday, in partnership with Airbus and Saturday, in partnership with The Eco Scheme.

During the day, the event spans across the scenic countryside estate, featuring entertainment, activities, food and drink stalls, trade stands, and exhibitions. Even if weather conditions prevent balloon flights, there are numerous opportunities for visitors to immerse themselves in the magic of ballooning and enjoy a free day out.

Join us for a weekend of awe-inspiring sights and family-friendly activities. While the event is free to attend, charges apply for onsite car parks and hospitality packages to enhance your experience.
