Every child and family should be able to access arts and culture, and the Family Arts Campaign is once again celebrating those who bring creativity to the lives of families and older people.

They are now accepting applications for the UK-wide Fantastic for Families Awards, funded by Arts Council England. These prestigious Awards celebrate outstanding creative projects and activities for families of all ages across the UK. This year the three award categories are: ‘Best Family Arts Activity,' ‘Best Age-Friendly Outreach’ and ‘Audience Impact and Innovation Award.'

From art galleries, libraries and museums to theatre producers, circus artists, music marketers and directors, Family Arts Campaign are on the hunt to discover and champion the best family-friendly and age-friendly activities and initiatives that were delivered between April 2023 and March 2024.

This is the twelfth year of the awards, and the need to highlight and exchange best practice is as pertinent as ever. To support applicants with their applications, Family Arts Campaign is offering a free webinar at 3pm on Thursday 15 August.

Arts and culture workers experienced significant challenges over the past few years, from pandemic restrictions to the cost-of-living crisis, which impacted the sector and its audiences. Despite this, cultural providers have created and delivered fantastic activities, resources and programmes for families of all backgrounds. Last year saw:

  • A month-long festival addressing holiday hunger (by Northern Stage, Newcastle)
  • A community organisation using history and storytelling to improve wellbeing in older people (by Doncaster Culture Services)
  • A multicultural show bringing together the Indian tale of Ramayana and Snow White through South Asian and Western art forms (by Sanskruti CIC, Cambridge)
  • A gallery turned into a space of sanctuary for refugees and asylum seekers through local partnerships (by Whitworth Art x Afrocats, Manchester)
  • Plus many more fantastic projects. See here for past winners.

The Fantastic for Families Awards are run by Family Arts Campaign, the national organisation funded by Arts Council England to support the arts and cultural sector to raise family engagement with arts and culture. The Family Arts Campaign invites applications from any organisations that have provided creative and cultural activities for families and/or older people anywhere in the UK between 1 April 2023 – 31 March 2024. To be eligible, organisations must commit to the Family Arts Standards or Age-Friendly Standards to ensure they’re embedding best practice and delivering a positive experience for families or older people. Signing up for our Standards is free!

Kickstart your application by attending the free Q&A webinar on Thursday 15 August at 3pm. This online event will provide information about the Fantastic for Families Awards, top tips for applying, and an opportunity to ask any questions you might have. Sign up here.

Applications are by self-nomination and open to organisations of all sizes. Family Arts Campaign welcomes small grassroots projects, knowing the big impact they can have on their communities. If you meet the eligibility criteria, Family Arts Campaign want to hear from you.
