Following the recent General Election, tourism industry bodies have issued individual responses to the results and the new Government's priorities.

UKinbound

The country's only trade association dedicated to inbound tourism, expressed their desire to seek a long-term collaboration with Sir Keir Starmer MP, the new Prime Minister.

In initial letters to the Prime Minister, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves MP, and Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport (which inludes tourism) Lisa Nandy MP, UKinbound stressed that inbound tourism is the UK’s second largest service export industry, exceeding the value of car and pharmaceutical exports, and a leading driver of economic growth in cities, towns, coastal and rural communities across the UK.

Alongside drawing attention to its manifesto, which the association launched in May, UKinbound highlighted a number of policy measures and reforms that could be rolled out relatively quickly and would positively impact businesses and jobs across the country.

UKHospitality

Kate Nicholls OBE, CEO of the trade body for the UK's hospitality industry, urged the new Government to deliver on its manifesto commitments quickly. In her official response to the election results, Nicholls expressed a wish for the Government to fulfil two of their key pledges within their first 100 days in office: replacing the business rates system to reduce the burden on hospitality busniesses, and reforming the Apprenticeship Levy to create a new Growth and Skills Levy. Nicholls also encouraged the Government to view hospitality as one of the key foundations of the everyday economy, and back the hospitality sector to help it grow.

Tourism Alliance

On congratulating the new Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport, Lisa Nandy MP on her appointment, the Tourism Alliance (the umbrella trade organisation for the whole of the UK tourism industry) stated that the new Government's plan for British tourism should include a new, comprehensive, cross-department Sustainable Tourism Growth Plan.
