Honouring the colourful history and heritage of Bath, this exciting new take on the quintessentially British tradition will allow guests to savour an indulgent afternoon tea alongside entertaining stories and tales that reveal an intriguing insight into the history and heritage of Bath. Built in the 1800s as part of two Grade II Listed buildings, the magnificent architecture, original Georgian and Victorian façades and city centre location of The Gainsborough Bath Spa make this the perfect spot to enjoy this carefully curated experience.

Taking place in the sophisticated surroundings of The Gainsborough Brasserie boasting original artwork, a stylish wine wall and understated luxury decor, the new History & Heritage Afternoon Tea is sure to delight. Gourmands can enjoy a wide selection of specialty teas from around the world - including the signature Gainsborough blend - alongside an assortment of delicate finger sandwiches, savoury treats and carefully crafted pastries and delicious cakes. Expect the afternoon tea classics such as Scottish smoked salmon with cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches and warm scones with homemade jam and Devonshire clotted cream, alongside a selection of unique savoury treats that pay homage to the YTL Hotels brand’s Asian roots, such as tantalising Malay curry puffs and a sesame prawn toast. Those looking to elevate the experience can top it off with a chilled glass of Champagne to toast to the occasion in style.

In line with honouring the rich history of Bath, The Gainsborough Bath Spa is also delighted to be working in partnership with Strictly Jane Austen, a division of travel specialists ECT Travel, to host a series of exclusive events and experiences in 2025 to mark the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth. Throughout two six-day programmes taking place from the 7th - 12th April and the 13th - 18th October 2025, literature lovers from around the world are invited to discover the spirit of Jane Austen in the very surroundings from which the iconic author shaped several of her significant works. The events will include captivating talks from Austen experts, guided tours to some of Bath’s most popular attractions and day trips to locations at the heart of English literature. As well as this, there will be a variety of convivial experiences on offer to mark the anniversary, including Regency dance and embroidery workshops, as well as an extravagant celebratory dinner.

Offering a revitalising escape in the heart of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, guests of The Gainsborough Bath Spa can also take advantage of exclusive access to the natural mineral-rich thermal waters in the hotel’s Spa Village - featuring three pools, traditional and infrared sauna, a steam room and ice alcove - as well as the guarantee of a restful night’s sleep in one of the sumptuous bedrooms boasting period design as well as contemporary features.
