The Broadway and West End hit Sister Act The Musical is set to visit the Theatre Royal Bath appearing from Tuesday 6 to Saturday 17 August as part of a major nationwide tour. The cast of twenty-one is led by stage and screen star Wendi Peters (Coronation Street, Hetty Feather, White Christmas) as Mother Superior and Landi Oshinowo (Matilda The Musical, Shrek the Musical, Big Fish) as everyone’s favourite nun on the run, Deloris Van Cartier.

Based on the iconic film Sister Act, this sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, sisterhood and music tells the hilarious story of a disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder. Under protective custody she is hidden in the one place she won’t be found – a convent! Disguised as a nun and under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.

Joyous and uplifting in equal measure, Sister Act features original music by Tony and eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken (Disney’s Aladdin, Enchanted) and songs inspired by Motown, soul and disco. Based on the Touchstone Pictures Motion Picture written by Joseph Howard, the stage show features lyrics by Glenn Slater with book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner, and additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane.

Starring as Mother Superior, Wendi Peters is best known on television for her role as the iconic Cilla Battersby Brown in ITV’s Coronation Street, as well as series regular Cook Jenkins in CBBC’s Hetty Feather. Alongside her screen work, Wendi’s many stage credits include the European premiere of You Are Here at the Southwark Playhouse, the National Tour of John Cleese’s Bang Bang!, the West End premiere of Big! The Musical at the Dominion Theatre, and national tours of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, White Christmas, Rutherford & Son, Quartet, which played Bath in 2018, and Oh, What A Lovely War!, which visited the Theatre Royal in 2015. Previously at the Theatre Royal, Wendi also starred as Fairy Bon-Bon in Beauty and the Beast for Bath’s 2019 Christmas season and won a Great British Pantomime Award for her role.

Landi Oshinowo plays the role of Deloris Van Cartier, after recently appearing as Mrs Phelps in Matilda The Musical in the West End. Her London stage credits also include Shrek the Musical at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, The Light Princess at the National Theatre, Big Fish at The Other Palace and Sister Act at the London Palladium. Landi has also toured the UK in the musicals Barnum, Fame and The Who’s Tommy.

The cast also features Alfie Parker as Eddie Souther, Ian Gareth-Jones as Curtis Jackson and Eloise Runnette as Sister Mary Robert, alongside Isabel Canning as Sister Mary Patrick, Julie Stark as Sister Mary Lazarus, Phillip Arran as Monsignor O’Hara, Kate Powell as Sister Mary Martin of Tours, Jayne Ashley as Sister Mary Theresa, Elliot Gooch as TJ, Michalis Antoniou as Pablo, Callum Martin as Joey, Esme Laudat as Michelle, Amber Kennedy as Tina, Harvey Ebbage as Clemont and Joseph Connor as Cop and Bartender. The company is completed by Ceris Hine, Sheri Lineham, Corrine Priest and Samuel John-Humphreys.
