Whether you’re an Andy Murray fanatic or obsessed with Dina Asher-Smith, pulses will be racing this summer as Cabot Circus brings the world’s biggest sporting stars together for FANSTAND, a 10-week long big screen sporting showcase.

Cabot Circus Fanzone

For the first time ever, Cabot Circus has become both an Official Team GB and ParalympicsGB Fanzone, enabling visitors to watch the greatest show on earth – the Olympic and Paralympic Games – on large screens run by Ocean Outdoor. As part of the summer sports programme, Wimbledon is also being broadcast live against the backdrop of the historic Quakers Friars and a tasty new food pop-up and bar.

Locals will be able to sit on comfortable branded deck chairs and cool off with colourful fans, all available for free (while stocks last).

Team GB Athlete & Mascot Appearance

As one of only nine Official Team GB and ParalympicsGB Fanzones, Cabot Circus will benefit from soon-to-be revealed appearances from athletes returning from Paris. Additionally on Sunday 4th August (11am – 3pm), there will be a special appearance from the Official Team GB Mascot ‘Pride the Lion’ to help locals cheer on all our British heroes going for gold!

Table Tennis England will also make an appearance from 26th July to coincide with the Olympics opening ceremony day. Professional player Louis Price will make a special appearance and hit balls with locals on newly installed table tennis tables in Quakers Friars.

Exciting new food pop-up

The activation will be served by Antonia’s Deli, a Bristol-born food-pop up, serving delicious lunchboxes and moreish savoury and sweet treats, from homely Scotch eggs and delicious sausage rolls to scrumptious cookies and melt in your mouth cakes.

There will also be a Parisian inspired pop-up bar operated by local wine bar KASK. The Bristol favourites menu includes French wine for any budding oenophile, charcuterie boards, cheese platters and artisan beer from local brewery Lost and Grounded.

Other dining options in Quakers Friars include Côte Brasserie, Harvey Nichols Second Floor Restaurant & Bar, Piccolino, and L’Osteria.

Strategy: introducing sport and culture to Cabot Circus

FANSTAND forms part of Hammerson’s strategy to evolve its destinations by broadening their use and purpose. The introduction of art, culture and sport has supported Cabot Circus’ repositioning from a place where people come only to shop to a multi-use destination that offers live music, entertainment, leisure and social uses. This includes a pop-up skatepark, a mural by the creators of Wallace & Gromit and even pop gigs by Dizzee Rascal and DJ Roni Size.

Kate Gwyther, Group Head of Commercialisation at Hammerson, commented: “There are few activities which connect communities and bring people together like sport, and as we evolve and future-proof our destinations, we will continue to celebrate and tap into our customer’s interests. As we work to get this right, it drives footfall, engages new audiences and ultimately attracts new and innovative brands. We’re shifting the perception and purpose of our destinations, and FANSTAND will bring this vision to life.”

In parallel to an exciting series of summer events and activations, a focus on introducing new brands, concepts and market firsts, which engage and excite customers, has seen the addition of Bristol’s first ever H&M Home, the return of M&S to Bristol city centre and Stradivarius, while new leisure concepts include Adventure Golf which is due to open in the second half of 2024.
