Spring has arrived in Cheddar Gorge; the flowers are blooming and the wildlife is thriving!

This May half term (25 May - 2 June), Cheddar Gorge are inviting everyone to go wild for wildlife and join in with a fun and informative week where you’ll learn about the wonderful wildlife that make the gorge their home.

The talks will be brought to life by the Cheddar team, who love to spread the word about the Wildlife Wonders of Cheddar Gorge.
There will be a series of daily interactive talks taking place in the Museum of Prehistory Garden, and the attraction will be shining the spotlight on the Soay sheep and goats who roam the cliffs, the bats who live deep within the caves, the nocturnal dormouse and the birds who soar high above the gorge. You’ll learn how all wildlife is important to our landscape and ecosystem, and how we can all help to conserve these precious species for future generations.

Join ‘How To’ sessions with the Cheddar team, who will demonstrate how to make a bird feeder from upcycled household items. At the end of each session, everyone will receive an instruction pack of how to make their own feeder at home.

Special pop-up events will run on selected days throughout the week, where you will see and learn about these special species:

  • Owl Meet and Greet courtesy of Owl Enlightment - Saturday 25 May
  • Cheddar Gorge's live Bee Hive Station courtesy of Burnham and Bee District Keepers - Wednesday 29 May 2024 and Saturday 1 June.

Cheddar Gorge invites you to explore the museum garden and learn more about the local wildlife and help furnish our Mega Bug Hotel to encourage the local populations of creepy crawlies to thrive.

There will also be themed wildlife creative arts and crafts taking place throughout the day.

Learn how Cheddar Gorge is part of the newly formed National Landscapes partnership. Classed as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and designated as a Special Site of Scientific Interest, all of which ensures that the area is legally protected to conserve the landscape, habitats and species.

Wonder at spectacular scenery, enjoy the iconic show caves and discover wildlife as you walk around the gorge landscape, all included in the price of your day ticket!

Admission is included within the cost of the Day Ticket, which also includes access to Gough’s Cave, Cox’s Cave featuring Cheddar Gorge's new immersive multimedia experience ‘Yeo’s Journey’, the Museum of Prehistory, Beyond the View cinematic experience, and Jacob’s Ladder leading up to the Lookout Tower, and the Cliff-Top Walk.
