Bristol Ferry Boats is a Community Benefit Society dedicated to serving Bristol by providing an outstanding transportation, education and leisure service to the city.
BCFB's iconic blue and yellow boats have been operating Bristol’s waterways for over 50 years and they are a renowned tourist attraction for the city.
Their enthusiastic crew are the heart of their operations; engaging customers in the local history and attractions, whilst providing a seamless and reliable service.
You will be able to work autonomously, take the initiative and collaborate with colleagues to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all who board our boats.
No previous boating experience is necessary, as training is provided thorough training on boat-handling and water safety.
Responsibilities
- Welcome guests on board, take payment and ensure safe embarkation and disembarkation.
- Ensure the enjoyment of passengers by answering questions and offering local knowledge and general assistance.
- Learn, retain and share essential local knowledge including landing stages, local businesses, attractions and history.
- Check vessel, crew and stock room before and after service to ensure cleanliness, preparedness and compliance to safety regulations.
- Know safety procedures and give the “safety” briefing competently to every passenger.
- Monitor passenger behaviour and the waterways for the duration of the service to ensure the safety of our passengers and other vessels.
- Adhere to company policy and procedure.
- Remain calm and assist passengers in the event of an emergency.
- Give particular attention to passengers with any additional needs.
- Prepare and manage an onboard bar on private trips where applicable.
Requirements:
- Exceptional communication skills

- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn local harbour history and geography
- Customer service – engaging passengers confidently and enthusiastically in the services.
- Initiative and an ability to work independently.
- Ability to work well in a team and adapt to changing situations.

- Arithmetic – calculating prices and taking payments (mainly by card).

Day one training: 4th or 5th March
Day two training: 18th or 19th March.
Successful candidates must be available for both day one training and day two training.
Availability: If taken on you will need to be available evenings & Weekends (ideally Friday-Tuesday)
