Nestled in the heart of Broadmead, the New Room is the perfect location to bring people together from across the city at this special time of year.
With a rich history of warmth and goodwill dating back to the 18th century, John Wesley's New Room is a unique and memorable place, that is sure to leave you feeling uplifted, renewed and joyful with this selection of Christmas Events:
Christmas at Charles Wesley’s House
4 Charles Street was home to the writer of one of the most popular, well-known Christmas carols of all time: Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. Join them for exclusive access to Charles Wesley’s House on our festive tours starting on 6 December.
Taking you back to 1769 where Charles Wesley and his family are getting ready for Christmas. Enjoy carols, beautiful floral displays and find out how Christmas was celebrated in the 18th century. Finish with a mince pie and an optional sing-along in the family music room.
Various dates throughout December. Booking is essential.
Lunchtime Carols
Celebrate the festive season with our lunchtime carol service. Enjoy special performances from the Community Choir and indulge in festive favourites from the café menu. Everyone is welcome!

Carols by Candlelight
Enjoy an evening of festive cheer as you are welcomed to gather for traditional Christmas carols in the atmospheric surroundings of our 18th century candlelit chapel. A unique cultural experience in the heart of Broadmead.

Christmas Craft Day (Drop-in)
Need a break from Christmas prep? Head to the New Room and sit in the calm and festive chapel whilst you enjoy making festive crafts including angels and snowmen!
Hot chocolate and cake available in the café and a warm welcome guaranteed.

The world’s oldest Methodist building in the centre of Bristol, John Wesley’s New Room is the room that changed the world. John Wesley started a mission here that sparked a worldwide movement. His message of social justice for all remains pertinent in the 21st century and still changes lives today.
A must-see heritage site, nestled amongst the shops of Broadmead, John Wesley's New Room is home to the original 18th century Chapel, as well as a Museum of John & Charles Wesley's life and work in Bristol. The venue also houses an award-winning Café, a vast reference Library and is available for hire.
