Promenade is a new project for Weston super Mare, that explores place, environment & the natural world through multidisciplinary contemporary arts and socially engaged practice.
Rooted in Weston's unique coastal landscape, Promenade considers an ecology of place, and our relationship with the environment we live in.
New artist commissions and engagement activities respond to Weston’s coastline and feature as part of the Promenade Weekender from 15-17 September, a programme of location-specific artworks, workshops & activities, music & performance, walks & talks, happenings & interventions taking place along Weston’s promenade.
The programme includes Artist & Communities commissions led by artists: Kayle Brandon, Tina Hitchens & Jen Greene, Abi Hubbard, Anna Chrystal Stephens who have been engaging with local groups to create new collaborative artworks.
Five new micro-commissions Grains of Sand, feature newly developed work from North Somerset based early-career artists: Germaine Budden, Amy Butlin, Rowan Colquhoun,
Alice Cunningham and Move until Dusk (MUD). The commissioned artists will present new location-specific artworks that explore the natural world and the area’s unique coastal landscape across a range of disciplines including movement, sculpture, natural printmaking, and installation.
The wider programme also includes artist-led activities including a durational intervention in the seascape from Weston based artist Karen Barry, life drawing on the shoreline with Katie Gillett, whilst Bristol artist Bryony Gillard leads a Seaweed Thinking writing workshop, and Water Stories explores Weston’s coastal environment and its waters through action and info. All workshops, activities, and events are free to attend. No booking is required.
