Scottish composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Erland Copper will be filling the Beacon with his spiritually charged music. Taking inspiration from his childhood home and the surrounding Scottish nature, his music creates a sense of orchestral nostalgia. Known for burying the only master copy of his first classical album in Scotland, he left a treasure hunt of clues for fans and his own record label to locate it. Poet laureate Simon Armitage’s musical venture with artist and producers Richard Walters and Patrick Pearson promises its latest release, ‘The Ultraviolet Age’, to be more accessible, more poignant and more widescreen. LYR admits that its debut record, ‘Call In The Crash Team’ wasn’t as experimental as expected and set about fixing this. Performingat the Redgrave Theatre from 7:30pm - 10pm on October 1, this is a performance not to be missed.
Along with his delicate piano-playing, and soothing orchestra, Jean-Michel Blairs creates a sense of stillness that fills a room. This Quebec-born Canadian is endowed with a natural-born talent. Although classically trained, Jean-Michel Blairs gravitated toward improvisation and experimentation. His albums reveal a palette of sounds that allow the listener’s imagination to run wild. His album ‘il’ was written after two years of daily improvisation which ultimately put him in the top 10 albums by Time Magazine. Capture him in all his ambient greatness from 7:30pm - 10:30pm on October 5 at the Bridgehouse.
Regarded as one of the most significant talents to emerge from Irish traditional music, Martin Hayes will be showcasing his skills on the fiddle. His unique sound radiates throughout the audience and will get everyone wanting to swing one another around. Martin’s ability to reintroduce traditional music into a contemporary world provides an insight into Irish music. Catch Martin Hayes in all his fiddlin’ action on October 17 from 7:30pm - 10:30 pm at Redgrove Theatre.
Behind the guise of the Hidden Orchestra, you’ll find Joe Acheson, a multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer. The Hidden Orchestra is constructed by a range of multi-genre artists and musicians who all recorded separately and were combined together by Joe in his studio to create his ‘imaginary orchestra’. His dark orchestral tones, paired with recording of nature, drums and electronic music create an ethereal blend of music that exceeds all genres. Witness the mastery of the Hidden Orchestra from 7:30pm - 10:30pm on October 24 at The Fleece.
