The VisitEngland Awards for Excellence champion the very best of the country’s tourism industry celebrating quality, innovation, best practice and exceptional customer service.
48 finalists were announced in total, after a rigorous judging process by handpicked tourism industry experts. VisitEngland Gold Accolade winning WWT Slimbridge was the only finalist selected from Gloucestershire, demonstrating the wetland centre is leading the way for the county and provides excellent access to nature - for all.
WWT Slimbridge won Silver in the South West Tourism Awards in March for Accessible & Inclusive Tourism as well as Silver for Large Visitor Attraction. Feedback from the awards was outstanding with the marker explaining;
“WWT Slimbridge is such a fabulous visitor attraction. How many other visitor attractions can you think of where you automatically know that the whole family will have a great day out? Everyone, of all ages and needs will feel included. The South West should be proud to have WWT Slimbridge located in the region!”
Winning Silver in the regional awards and now going through to the national awards is a massive achievement for Slimbridge and their dedicated staff and volunteers are delighted.
All of WWT’s wetland centres exist to fulfil founder Sir Peter Scott’s vision of connecting people with nature and they aim for their wetlands and wildlife to be accessible to everyone.
Being a finalist in the VisitEngland Awards recognises that WWT Slimbridge provides a truly memorable visitor experience for everyone - particularly those with accessibility requirements, and demonstrate excellence across every aspect of their business.
VisitEngland Director Andrew Stokes said:
“This impressive list of finalists demonstrates the innovation and excellence thriving across England’s tourism industry. The quality and number of applications also highlights the outstanding range of products and experiences on offer for both domestic and international visitors. We wish the finalists the very best of luck.”
WWT Slimbridge, along with all finalists, will attend the national awards ceremony which will be held at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter, on June 7.
