With cherry blossom season in full bloom, Kitchen by KASK is embracing the new beginnings Sakura brings by partnering with Japanese soul food specialist, Lonely Mouth, for a two month residency. Kicking off on Thursday 4 May, Japanese-food fanatic Olivia Maxwell-Yates will bring her Lonely Mouth menu to the North Street location, with Bristol favourite KASK curating a drinks menu to pair perfectly with the Asian flavours.

No stranger to Bristol, Lonely Mouth previously had popular residencies at two city institutions, The Plough and Volunteer Tavern. Drawing inspiration from her time spent in Tokyo and her love for the people, culture, music and buzz - Lonely Mouth will be bringing ultimate vibes and masterful cuisine to Kitchen throughout May and June.

Olivia Maxwell-Yates, founder of Lonely Mouth, said: “This opportunity at Kitchen by KASK has come at the perfect time. I’ve put so much time, effort, creativity and love into Lonely Mouth and this is the ideal chance to concentrate on the dishes that make me nerdy about food. The menu is short, so the effort and ingredients in each dish will be great quality, and I’ll have time to experiment with specials and new dishes.”

Charlie Taylor, owner of Kitchen by KASK, said: “This is going to be the longest residency we’ve had, and with that comes an amazing opportunity to play around with new flavours to find ever-more interesting food + drink pairings. Just as exciting is the opportunity to change up the customer experience, working with Olivia on elements such as the interiors and the music to create a real Lonely Mouth takeover. This isn’t just a pop-up, this is effectively a new restaurant on North Street: spring is here and brings exciting changes!”

Expect everyone’s favourite bowl of comfort food, ramen, to take pride of place on the carefully curated and limited menu. Deep flavours of Ox Beef and the creamy silky spiciness of the classic Tantanmen with miso tare, chicken paitan broth and spicy minced tantanmen pork. Small plates of fried sweetbread with furikake and egg yolk sauce or beef tartare oshizushi with nori crackers are also guaranteed to satisfy all taste buds. For each delectable dish, a vegan or vegetarian option to match every plate on the menu will also be available - so there’s no need to miss out on Lonely Mouth.

Throughout the two month residency, KASK will experiment with a range of wines, beers, ciders, sake, spirits and soft drinks, served as tasting flights to complement Lonely Mouth’s  signature small plates and one-off specials. The perfect pairing of spices and fruity notes, there’s no better time to Saké-like-it’s-hot

This staple menu of Asian classics, along with regular rotating specials will keep Bristol coming back for more. As is the ethos of Lonely Mouth: “When you’re not hungry, but you eat because your mouth is lonely.”

Showcasing the diversity of the space, Kitchen by KASK also regularly hosts Buskers Banquets, supper clubs with The MAZI Project, home-cooks from All About the Cooks, as well as private parties. Bookings for the Lonely Mouth residency are now live on the Kitchen by KASK website. Book a table and keep up to date with all things from the Kitchen on Instagram.
