Wildscreen has received funding from Groundwork’s New to Nature programme to offer a 12-month Communications Assistant paid placement to a young person in Bristol.
Wildscreen has been selected to join the first wave of Groundwork’s New to Nature programme, receiving funding to offer a high-quality 12-month Communications Assistant placement to a young person in Bristol. Wildscreen and Groundwork are looking for applications from people from ethnically diverse backgrounds, those who have a disability or are from low-income households to create more inclusive employment opportunities in the environmental sector. Nationwide, the £2million New to Nature programme is supporting 70 young people aged 18-25 to enter the natural heritage industry.
The successful applicant will receive the opportunity to learn new skills and gain experience in creating green communications to boost their employability and will receive additional support from Employment Coaches to help them plan out their future career. As part of the Wildscreen team, the individuals will focus on designing and delivering environmental digital media and content and working to engage communities globally with nature. By doing this, they will help to raise awareness and increase the reach of important narratives of natural world stories that spotlight the plight of the planet and biodiversity.
Your Park Bristol and Bath, a Bristol charity that puts local parks at the heart of community life, was also chosen for the programme and they are looking for a Park Access Trainee. As an essential part of the first year of their park accessibility project, this placement will allow the successful applicant to help the organisation take the initial steps to make local parks more accessible, helping to improve the health and wellbeing of thousands of disabled people and unpaid carers in Bristol and Bath. Other organisations on the programme include WWF-UK, British Ecological Society, CPRE and The Countryside Charity among others, presenting opportunities in project management, administration, communications and fundraising.
Lucie Muir, CEO of Wildscreen, said: “Since 1987, Wildscreen has continued to open discussions and create new opportunities within the conservation and green sectors. Groundwork’s New to Nature programme allows us to support a young person who otherwise may not have the opportunities to break into green communications.
“We’re looking for a dynamic and creative individual to join our team so that they can start their career in a role that will actively protect the planet and inspire positive change. If this sounds like you, or someone you may know, head to the Wildscreen or Groundwork website to find out more.”
The programme is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. People can find out more about the placements on the New to Nature website and can apply for roles via an online form, voice note or video. Applications for the Wildscreen and Your Park Bristol and Bath positions will close at 12pm on Friday 11th November: apply here
