For the past five years Belly Laughs has been banishing the winter blues in Bristol with their own unique brand of fun. This January they’re expanding - Bath, it’s time!
The brainchild of comedian Mark Olver, Belly Laughs brings people together through comedy and food in the most miserable month of the year. They’re excited to be launching in Bath with gigs planned across the city this coming January to raise money for local homeless charity Julian House.
Past gigs have seen contributions from local comedians and familiar faces (including Jon Richardson, Rosie Jones, Jayde Adams and Nish Kumar), and 2023 promises more of the same.
What to expect?
Belly Laughs partner with independent venues and community centres to put on comedy gigs with food and drink. You could find yourself in a wine bar with 20 other people, giggling over tacos with 5 friends or jostling for space in a packed out community centre.
Every gig is unique but one thing remains the same. You’ll be fed and watered, you’ll laugh and you’ll be supporting a good cause. Let’s be honest, what else is this much fun in January?
Mark Olver says “We do stuff in that area where food, comedy and doing good stuff for others meets. We’re really excited to be spreading our wings a little and launching in our neighbouring city of Bath! I’m always blown away by people’s generosity at these events and am sure we can raise some money for Julian House whilst having a bit of a laugh at the same time."
Belly Laughs' chosen charity is Julian House, a charity that supports vulnerable and at-risk individuals. These include adults and young people experiencing homelessness, escaping domestic abuse, adults with learning difficulties and people who need support after leaving prison. They want to build a just society where socially excluded people are supported and empowered to build sustainable, independent lives. Their projects not only address the symptoms of homelessness but also the underlying reasons why people are forced onto the streets. They operate more than 40 different projects, accommodation sites and social enterprises across the South West. These include homeless outreach services and a 20-bed emergency access hostel in the centre of Bath.
A number of shows are on sale now through Belly Laughs' ticketing partner Yuup, with more being added all the time. Why not treat yourself, or even better, buy some for Christmas gifts?
