From new films and Netflix shows to hotel refurbishment plans and upgrades and a brand-new wellness festival for the city – here is a round-up of all that’s new in Bath in 2023 and beyond.
New Openings
A brand-new discovery centre will tell the story of Bath Abbey’s fascinating history. Due to open in Spring 2023.

Bath has long attracted directors and producers eager to use the city’s streets and architecture as a backdrop to films and TV shows. 2023 will see the release of Bridgerton season 3 and a Bridgerton spin-off based on Queen Charlotte’s life. The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry with Jim Broadbent and featuring scenes shot in Bath will appear on the big screen in April, and the hugely anticipated Wonka starring Timothee Chamalet is due to hit cinemas next December – night-time shots were captured at various places around the city.

Events and Festivals
Belly Laughs Bath: 1 - 31 January 2023, various dates and venues.
If you’ve not heard of it before, Belly Laughs is a comedy and food festival that brings smiles to faces, punters to independent venues, and money to local grassroots charities! The Festival is coming to Bath for the first time to some of the city’s best restaurants, bars and lesser-known venues including Bandook, Coconut Tree, Kingsmead Bottle Shop and SugarCane Studio, Sally Lunns. £10 from every ticket goes to Julian House – a local charity that supports and empowers vulnerable and at-risk individuals whilst tackling the symptoms and underlying causes of homelessness.

Rebalance Bath – a brand-new wellbeing festival for the city: 7 – 26 February 2023.
Rebalance Bath will bring together venues, hotels, therapists, and practitioners for a three-week celebration of wellness and the city’s connections to thermal waters for local residents, city-centre workers and visitors to enjoy from 7 – 26 February 2023. The Rebalance Bath programme of activity will include many free events and taster sessions alongside luxury spa hotel packages and bookable activities. The festival will be centred around the seven pillars of wellness: physical, mental, social, financial, spiritual, vocational and environmental.

Bath Hotel Updates
Homewood Hotel on the outskirts of the city is due to undergo refurbishment works to spa and will be adding new guest suites in 2023.

Exhibitions
Painted Love: Renaissance Marriage Portraits at The Holburne Museum: 26 May – 1 October 2023
This is a major exhibition looking at the role of portraiture in the process of marriage in the Renaissance of Northern and Southern Europe.

Capturing Life - A Century of the New English Art Club at Victoria Art Gallery: 21 January – 11 April 2023
Opening on 21 January at the Victoria Art Gallery in Bath, Capturing Life: A Century of the New English Art Club will showcase work by past and present members of the New English Art Club, an elected society of contemporary painters inspired by the visual world.

Modern Pentathlon & Laser Run World Championships: 21 - 29 August 2023, University of Bath
University of Bath will host the 2023 UIPM Modern Pentathlon and Laser Run World Championships, a Paris 2024 Olympic qualifying event.

Work on the Bath Quays riverside development featuring new office space, shops and restaurants will be completed later in the decade.

Fashion Museum Bath will move to a new location in the Old Post Office at the bottom of Milsom Street and Old Bond Street (time frame 3-8 years depending on funding).

Milsom Quarter Development – a longterm project by Bath & North East Somerset Council to redevelop the Milsom Street and Broad Street area with new workshop, retail, event and residential spaces to become a fashion hub for the city attracting new creative and retail businesses.

New Bath Rugby stadium due in 2025

The Assembly Rooms will be reimagined by the National Trust into a Georgian experience that will become a gateway to the city in 2025.
