This November, Bristol Cathedral will be hosting a light show entitled Luxmuralis: Space Voyager.
Appearing in Bristol for the very first time from 1 - 5 November, this critically acclaimed multi-sensory experience by light artist Peter Walker will transform the interior of the historic Cathedral into a virtual canvas that will take visitors on a journey through the outer space.
With cosmic light art projected onto the architectural features of the Cathedral and a bespoke soundtrack filling the space, the Space Voyager will create an immersive experience that will help visitors explore the space of the Cathedral in a new light and contemplate their relationship with the planet Earth and beyond.
"We are excited to be hosting this multi-sensory experience in Bristol Cathedral and hope that everyone will be moved by a sense of awe and wonder as we experience the light and sound of the universe inside our ancient building,” said the Very Reverend Mandy Ford, Dean of Bristol.
Luxmuralis, which means light murals in Latin, is an artistic collaboration between sculptor Peter Walker and composer David Harper. This award-winning team creates large-scale, site-specific installations taking art and creativity to various spaces across the UK and Europe.
"We are all responsible for this small planet that we started to explore in the 1960’s, climate change is part of the narrative,” says artist Peter Walker, Luxmuralis Lead Artist and Artistic Director. “The artwork is about reflecting inwards as much as it is about reflecting outwards, and about how we take care of our small piece of the Universe.”
