With just days to go until the Weston Air Festival makes an exciting return to Weston-super-Mare this weekend, organisers have announced helpful tips and details on how to plan your trip to the event.
The free to attend two-day family festival will take place on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 June, where more than 200,000 visitors are expected to head to the seafront to watch in awe as the world’s most iconic aircraft including RAF Red Arrows, Aerosuperbatics Wingwalkers, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, The Blades and Team Raven soar across Weston-super-Mare.
The action-packed programme will host an astounding line-up of aerial entertainment, as well as trade stands, fair rides, bars, and catering to enjoy at the event village, which will stretch across Weston’s beach lawns. The event green will be open throughout the weekend, with tons of family-fun entertainment including the musical talents of Bristol-based harmony trio, the Polka Dot Peaches and incredible displays from The Red Barrows 290 (Weston) Squadron Air Training Corp.
Parking
Parking will be available on the beach at Royal Sands at the south end of the seafront. Please follow directional signage. Day parking will be £10 per vehicle and can be paid by cash or card. There will also be alternative pay and display parking available in the Town Centre. More details are available on North Somerset Council’s interactive parking map.
If you’re following sat nav, use Marine Parade, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1BE.
Coach drop off/parking
For those travelling by coach or bus, there is a coach drop off point on the promenade (drop off available until 10.30am and pick up after 6pm). Coach parking is available in Locking Road car park (BS23 3DE) £10 per coach.
Alternative travel arrangements
With the proposed national rail strikes set to take place on Tuesday 21, Thursday 23 and Saturday 25 June, the organisers are advising attendees to consider alternative transport options. This includes travel by bus, coach and by car.
Please check the First Group website for any changes in bus timetables.
It is likely that there will be increased interest in parking and there are limited spaces close to the seafront available, so organisers advise checking the North Somerset Council website for alternative parking options.
Disabled access
Unfortunately, there is no disabled parking directly on the beach, however, there are limited spaces available along Marine Parade, so be sure to arrive early to guarantee a spot. There is also disabled parking in surrounding car parks.
Road closures
Along the seafront’s Marine Parade, between Royal Sands to south of the Grand Pier, will be closed during the event on Saturday 25 June and Sunday 26 June between 10.30am and 6pm.
The festival takes place across the Armed Forces Weekend, which will see the celebrations kick off at midday with a parade along the seafront, followed by two days of demonstrations and displays from all sections of the armed forces community. The Armed Forces Village will be situated along Marine Parade, along with the much-loved fun-fair, carnival stalls, local and national traders, a variety of food and drink stalls plus stands from visiting RAF ground crews.
