Keynsham’s Pixash recycling centre will once again play a starring role in the new series of BBC One’s ‘Money for Nothing’ which launches next Monday 6 June.
Production company Friel Kean Films spent two weeks filming at Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Recycling Centre last summer, saving items and giving them a new lease of life by passing them onto talented artisans who transformed them into stylish and valuable pieces. The items were then sold making money for residents who had no idea there was cash to be made from what they were throwing away.
The Recycling Centre is a favoured location of the production team, who have regularly filmed at the site over the past three years. Previous items recovered from Keynsham and featured in the programme include an old writing bureau that once belonged to James Bond author Ian Fleming. It was subsequently turned into a cocktail cabinet.
Councillor David Wood, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services, said: “One person’s trash is another’s treasure, and this really is a fantastic example of how unwanted items can be upcycled or repurposed with the use of a little imagination. Of course, taking to a recycling centre should always be a last resort and we’d encouraged people to offer reusable items first on freecycling networks.”
You can watch what happens to the saved items from Keynsham in episode three of the new series of ‘Money for Nothing,' which airs on BBC One at 2.15pm on Wednesday 8th June.
