A fortnight before the first covid lockdown King Street Brew House won two awards at 2020 SIBA Independent Beer Awards; Gold for the super session-able 3% Mirco IPA in the South West Session IPA category and Silver for White Trash, their flagship IPA, in the SIBA South West IPA category.
Building on the success of 2020, at Beer X 2022 White Trash has gone not one, but two steps further achieving Gold at a regional level and Bronze in the SIBA National IPA Category! Get Schwifty, their Passionfruit and Mango Sour Ale also won a respectable Bronze in the SIBA South West Fruit/Sour Category.
Since opening in 2016, King Street Brew House has brewed 435 batches of beer resulting in 620,000 pints over nearly 100 different brands ranging from Barrel Aged stouts to Imperial Table Beers and everything in-between.
White Trash is the beer they’ve brewed the most of - over 10% of the beer they’ve ever made has been White Trash! The first iteration of the flagship brew was way back in March 2016. Back then it was going to be a 4.5% Golden Ale but our Head Brewer Simon (Junior Brewer at the time) insisted they had a stronger, hop forward beer in the line up. Since then, the recipe has been tweaked and adjusted, the result being the beer they have today. Simon is ably assisted by Assistant Brewer Lynn Manning (a.k.a Beans) and together they brew beer at King Street and at The Turk’s Head, their sister brew pub in Exeter.
Both Simon and Lynn show a great passion for brewing and have many exciting beers coming out this year, and now that they have won yet another award for their beers, there is no better reason to visit King Street Brewhouse.
Make sure you pop into the pub regularly as you may be lucky to be there on one of their brew days! Remember, you can always book a brewing experience with the site and learn even more about brewing beer… while drinking beer… is there a better way to spend an afternoon?
