After reducing Bath audiences to fits of laughter with The Late-ivity in January, Living Spit return to the city to present their latest side-splitting show, Elizabeth I: Virgin On The Ridiculous, at the Ustinov Studio on Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th May.

1558, England. A country divided by religion and politics, teetering on the brink of civil war. The hopes of the nation lie with one woman. 2022, England. A country divided by those who enjoy plays featuring men in dresses and those who don’t. The hopes of the nation lie with two West-Country actors. Yes, that’s right, Howard and Stu are back.

Fresh from touring their sold-out (from Penzance to Pitlochry), Off-West End award nominated, The Six Wives of Henry VIII, the second of Living Spit’s (un)Holy Trinity of hilarious heritage historiographies is go as Howard and Stu attempt to tell the story of the greatest monarch that ever lived - Elizabeth: The Virgin Queen.

With more live original music, silly songs, smutty shenanigans, perfunctory props and hysterically historical horseplay, this promises to be (another) poorly researched lesson in Tudor history that audiences will never forget!

Elizabeth I: Virgin On The Ridiculous stars Howard Coggins and Stu Mcloughlin who, as well as touring the UK with Living Spit, have performed in a host of stage productions at Bristol Old Vic, Salisbury Playhouse, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Lyric Hammersmith, Newbury’s Watermill and toured with theatre companies including Kneehigh and the National Theatre. On screen, Howard has appeared in TV series including Waking the Dead, Law and Order, Sherlock, Doc Martin, Doctors and Casualty, whilst Stu has appeared in Clone, Little Dorritt, Waking the Dead and The Outlaws, and is the Musical Director and Composer for Shanty Theatre Company.

Based in Clevedon, Somerset, Living Spit’s previous hugely popular shows include A Christmas Carol, Frankenstein, The Six Wives of Henry VIII, The Late-ivity and The Fabulous Bacon Boys.

Elizabeth I: Virgin On The Ridiculous appears at the Ustinov Studio on Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th May. Tickets are on sale at the Theatre Royal Bath Box Office on 01225 448844 and online at www.theatreroyal.org.uk/ustinov
