Did you know that there is a microbrewery inside a pub in Bath? Better yet, there is now an AWARD WINNING microbrewery in a pub in Bath!
The Bath Brew House opened in Bath in 2013, managed by Lucas, the pub has gone from strength to strength in the last 8 years. Bath Brew House is the only place with a microbrewery inside a pub in Bath, so its customers have the satisfaction of drinking beer that was made literally a few feet from the bar.
The brewery offers tours to explain the intricate methods of brewing and how this unique brewery functions. For example, the brewery doesn’t buy in CO2 to carbonate its beers, instead, it uses more traditional methods of secondary fermentation. Additionally, the brewery has a local farmer that collects the ‘spent grains’ to feed his animals, reducing the brewery’s waste to next to nothing… how’s that for a sustainable pint?

Over the years, Bath Brew House has created over 60 beers, including an annual Birthday beer released in September which is aged in Bourbon barrels throughout the year. However, recently, The Bath Brew House has taken away gold at the SIBA awards in the SW Strong IPA category, for their latest beer creation, Taz!
Taz is double dry-hopped IPA, this means that twice the usual quantities of dry-hopping went into the beer during two different points of the fermentation process. The hops used were Australian, hence the name, and called Enigma and Eclipse. The beer is also a stronger ABV as it’s made with more malt and less water. The result? A dark resinous IPA with fruity aromas. Just another great reason to visit the Bath Brew House!
Taz was brewed by head brewer Max. Max has been brewing at Bath Brew House for 5 years, starting his brewing journey 7 years ago in Brussels. Max has a great passion for beer and brewing, make sure you pop into the pub regularly as you may be lucky to be there on one of their brew days! Remember, you can always book a brewing experience with the site and learn even more about brewing beer… while drinking beer… is there a better way to spend an afternoon?
P.S. if you haven't had a chance yet, visit Bath Brew House to see the new garden renovation, now officially the best beer garden in Bath!
