The façade of Bath & North East Somerset Council’s iconic Roman Baths was lit in the yellow and blue of Ukraine’s flag on February 25th to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine in the face of Russian attack.
Councillor Kevin Guy, leader of Bath & North East Somerset Council, said: “The lighting up of our iconic Roman Baths is a way of showing our solidarity and support for the people of Ukraine. The Russian invasion is a terrible human tragedy and I know residents will share my horror at the unfolding events.
“The violence inflicted by Putin on a free and democratic nation is to be utterly condemned. This must be a desperately worrying time for those in our communities who have friends and families in Ukraine and our thoughts are with them.
“I am committed to the council doing whatever it can to respond to this unprecedented and heart-breaking situation.
“We will now work with central government on any coordinated response they bring forward to resettle refugees of the conflict, building on the fantastic response we have seen from local communities and organisations in our previous resettlement schemes.”
