New dance show Little Murmur by acclaimed choreographer Aakash Odedra to visit Bath’s Egg Theatre

Little Murmur, a mesmerising new dance show for children aged over 7 and their families about facing challenges and overcoming the odds, tours to Bath’s Egg Theatre on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th February with two performances daily at 11.30am and 3pm.

Little Murmur combines illustration and technology with dance and humour in a stunning visual treat. Created by award-winning choreographer Aakash Odedra and Lewis Major, Little Murmur is based on the true story of one child’s struggle with letters and words, living with dyslexia and seeing things differently. Taking its audience on a moving, funny and heartfelt journey performed by dancer Subhash Viman Gorania, it explores the realities of living in a world you struggle to process.

Aakash Odedra was diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age. Finding himself defined by his learning difficulties rather than his abilities, dance became his mode of expression – a theme he has previously explored in his show Murmur. His latest piece of dance theatre Little Murmur is the first work from the Aakash Odedra Company specially adapted for young audiences.

Talking about Little Murmur, Aakash said: "The piece is about struggle and being able to find your own identity through struggle. You don't need to be dyslexic to understand the show – everyone goes through their own challenges and can feel like they are different. It's about allowing people to become more open to difference and different ways of thinking. I feel it's really important to be able to engage with the younger generation because they are our future. The piece shows them that different is okay, it is beautiful, and it should be celebrated."

A globally recognised and award-winning artist, choreographer Aakash Odedra is one of the most talented British South Asian dancers. Born in Birmingham, he trained in the Indian classical dance forms Bharatanatyam and Kathak, then moved to India as a student of the renowned Bollywood choreographer Shiamak Davar. Aakash has appeared in over 300 full length performances in 40 countries. He founded the Aakash Odedra Company with Anand Bhatt in 2011.
