John Wesley’s New Room in Bristol’s Broadmead announces its new season of folk events for Spring 2022. The perfect Christmas gift for those who value experiences over things, Folk at John Wesley’s New Room is a feast for all the senses, taking place on Thursday evenings.

These intimate performances combine the sweet sounds of talented musicians in the great folk tradition with fresh takes on familiar folk themes. Sure to delight and inspire listeners in equal measure, the performances are illuminated by candlelight in the beautiful 18th Century chapel building. The Horsefair Bar and Cafe is also open for drinks and refreshments before the events.

The upcoming programme of special performances in this unique and atmospheric venue includes an evening with Sam Sweeney, (Thursday 17 February) veteran of Bellowhead and four time nominee, and winner in 2015, of Musician Of The Year BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards; and two Covid-19 affected rescheduled gigs. Peggy Seeger (Thursday 31 March), icon and the undisputed queen of folk and political song is joined by her son Calum MacColl for the first of the rescheduled gigs, with Ben Walker and Kirsty Merryn (Thursday 28 April) breathing new life into long-lost songs from our agricultural past in the second. From the moving tones of Sam Sweeney’s solo fiddle to the multi-instrumental acoustic sounds of Bristol band Three Cane Whale (Thursday 20 January), and songs about place, landscape and birds from Salt House (Thursday 17 March), there is something for all folk music enthusiasts and those inspired and motivated by the beauty of the natural world.
