Bristol Old Vic today announces not one but two of its ground-breaking critically acclaimed productions are coming to major platforms this month, as part of the theatre's ongoing commitment to share theatre with a global audience.

Digital Premieres of Bristol Old Vic shows from Sky Arts and YouTube this Dec

Sky Arts will premiere Touching the Void - the immersive 2021 film of Bristol Old Vic's acclaimed production - on 9 Dec at 9pm. It will be free to watch on Freeview Channel 11.

Be transported to the freezing heights of the Peruvian Andes, as the true story of Joe Simpson and Simon Yates’ perilous descent of Siula Grande becomes a breathtaking struggle for survival.

Directed by Tony Award-winning Tom Morris (War Horse) and based on Joe Simpson’s bestselling memoir, David Greig’s thrilling adaptation charts this astonishing story of human endurance. Life-affirming and often darkly funny, Touching the Void takes you on an epic adventure that asks how far you’d be willing to go to survive.

Following a sell-out West End run, Touching the Void was filmed live at the 255 year-old Bristol Old Vic earlier this year. This production not only recreates the intimate atmosphere of being at the theatre, but also transports you to the mountain itself.

Bristol Old Vic's record-breaking A Christmas Carol is also being made available for free the first time to audiences around the world on 16 Dec from 6pm. In partnership with YouTube UK, Bristol Old Vic are bringing their best-selling Christmas production to the world's largest digital platform and will be available from 16 Dec - 1 Jan 2022.

This 2019 revival stars the charismatic John Hopkins as Scrooge. Dickens' classic is adapted by Tom Morris (Touching the Void; The Grinning Man), directed by Lee Lyford (The Elephant Man), with music and lyrics by Gwyneth Herbert (The Snow Queen) and is the ultimate festive feast for all the family.
