Bath City Centre Remembrance Sunday travel update

Residents, businesses and visitors are being advised that Bath city centre is likely to experience further congestion this weekend and to plan their journeys.

Work continues on Cleveland Bridge as well as the Wessex Water sewer pipe works at the Ambury.

And on Sunday city centre roads will be closed for the Remembrance Parade and wreath-laying.

Councillor Manda Rigby, cabinet member for Transport, said: “We are encouraging people to plan their journeys in advance if they are coming into the city and where possible use alternative forms of travel such as the Park and Ride sites, train, and if local walking, cycling and scooting. Where possible please avoid the Ambury area.

”We also want to remind people that the annual Remembrance Day Parade and wreath-laying will see many city centre roads closed to allow this event to take place.”
Drivers are advised that access to the city’s Avon Street car park will be via Green Park Road and not via the Ambury.

While the council seeks to minimise disruption on the highway unfortunately a combination of factors mean that Cleveland Bridge would have been opened before the road closure for the Wessex Water works on a sewer pipe at the Ambury started however the bridge condition being worse than expected has meant the works are taking longer. The volume of traffic entering the city has also recovered to pre-pandemic levels.

The Wessex Water sewer pipe works are due to finish next week, to minimise traffic congestion during the peak Christmas period, then re-commence in the New Year.
