Bristol Zoo Gardens and Wild Place Project have launched an online shop that will help support both sites and their animal conservation projects across the world.

Toys from the online shop

It goes live tomorrow (October 6 2021), ready for early Christmas shopping, offering a wide range of gift ideas for animal lovers of all ages.

The online gift shop is filled with eco-friendly toys, souvenirs, art and homeware, and includes ranges specific to the animals found at both Bristol Zoo Gardens and Wild Place Project.

Firm favourites such as gorillas, bears, lemurs and sloths all feature in the shop, as well as reptile, bird and bug gifts too.

A number of special editions are available to buy, including a Bristol Zoo Gardens gorilla and vintage framed prints dating from as far back as 1910 and a Wild Place bear.

Also available are a range of books for children and grown-ups alike, providing tips for eco-friendly and more sustainable living, alongside tales about a magical toy gorilla and a beautifully illustrated Animal Atlas.

Prices range from £1.99 (for crunchy roasted crickets) to £34.99 (for vintage framed Bristol Zoo branded prints) and there is free postage and packaging on any orders worth £50 and over.

Visitors to the Bristol Zoo Gardens or Wild Place Project website can also buy animal adoptions, admissions vouchers and memberships as a special gift for a loved one, youngster or friend.

There are different groups of animals which can be adopted including gorillas, lemurs, giraffes and bears.

Each adoption pack comes with a special adoption certificate, an animal fact file and a model kit of an animal made from sustainable wood.

Dagmar Smeed, Head of Marketing and Communications at Bristol Zoological Society, said: “We know people love animal gifts, especially at Christmas. Some are cute, some are practical, some inspiring and some are simply fun, and all are linked to Bristol Zoo Gardens or Wild Place Project and our work.

“Every sale will also help to generate funds that will go towards Bristol Zoological Society, our two sites and our charity’s conservation work. I would encourage people to shop with us and help make a difference.”

Bristol Zoological Society is currently involved in 14 projects in 10 countries helping animals as diverse as the white-clawed crayfish in the south west of England, to endangered lemurs in Madagascar and giraffes in Cameroon.

The new shop can be found at shop.bristolzoo.org.uk or through bristolzoo.org.uk.

Bristol Zoo Gardens and Wild Place Project are run by Bristol Zoological Society which is a conservation and education charity and relies on the generous support of the public not only to fund its important work at both zoos, but also its vital education and community outreach programme.

In March last year the Society launched the BZS Appeal to ensure the future of its work ‘saving wildlife together’ following the temporary closure of both its sites in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.

As school groups can now be welcomed back to both zoos, donations from the appeal fund will support the Education Bursary Fund, to ensure schools and youth groups in disadvantaged areas are able to benefit from visiting Bristol Zoo Gardens and Wild Place Project.
