The American Museum & Gardens in Bath has announced major plans for a spectacular Christmas illuminations trail from 9-31 December 2021, with ticket sales opening to the public on Thursday 19 August.

The Enchanted Garden of Light will illuminate the dramatic hillside setting as never before, with a sparkling route winding throughout the gardens and parkland. Because this is Bath’s only Christmas lights trail, tickets are anticipated to sell quickly, with families and friends making early plans to be together for the festive season in this magnificent open-air setting.

Visitors to The Enchanted Garden of Light will embark on an after-dark adventure through glittering displays that will emblazon the entire house, gardens, and woodland in glorious seasonal colour. The hour-long trail has been designed in partnership with innovative lighting designers SLX and will include a series of captivating site-specific installations set to sound and music. The Enchanted Garden of Light at the American Museum & Gardens will be the only event of its scale in the Bath area, with tickets priced competitively to ensure that it is accessible to as many families as possible.

“We are thrilled to host this very special and uplifting Christmas event, and we look forward to welcoming visitors from Bath and the surrounding areas to experience a truly memorable evening of festivities, as our 60th anniversary year draws to a close” said Richard Wendorf, Director of the American Museum & Gardens.

Also on offer will be a variety of festive food and drink stalls, featuring the very best of the American Christmas: chestnuts roasting, gourmet hotdogs and burgers, spiced apple, hot chocolate, and other warming drinks. There will be an opportunity for visitors to combine some Christmas shopping at The Christmas Coach House, a magical and immersive Christmas shopping experience, with a wide selection of decorations and gifts available to buy every evening.

About the American Museum & Gardens

The American Museum & Gardens in Bath is the only museum of Americana outside the United States. Founded in 1961, its mission is to educate, stimulate, and inspire to further the understanding of American history and culture. With its remarkable collection of folk, decorative arts and cultural objects, the Museum shows the diverse and complex nature of American traditions. Each year, special temporary exhibitions are on display in our Exhibition Gallery, and throughout the year there are a range of exciting events.

Located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the hilltop site of the Museum’s home, Claverton Manor, takes full advantage of the spectacular views over the Limpley Stoke Valley and River Avon. Since the Museum opened, the 30 acres surrounding the house have been developed to include a replica of George Washington’s garden at Mount Vernon, a Lewis and Clark trail, and an Arboretum. The New American Garden is the first European commission for Washington DC based landscape architects Oehme, van Sweden (OvS). The planting follows the free-form style made famous by the firm’s founders, Wolfgang Oehme and James van Sweden.
