Bristol-based food and drink discovery platform, Wriggle, has launched a new ‘Foodcation’ campaign in a bid to encourage Bristol residents to holiday where they live this summer and support independent food and drink venues across the city.

From today, Wriggle app and website users can access a series of unique tours across Bristol neighbourhoods, made in collaboration with independent restaurants, cafes and bars. These self-guided tours include walking or cycling routes of the neighbourhood, with regular stops for food and drink at popular local venues included in the price of the ticket.

The launch of this campaign has been inspired by the impact the pandemic has had on the leisure and tourism industry, as well as Wriggle founder Robert Hall’s experiences during the recent lockdowns.

“We wanted to launch the Foodcation campaign now as we know many people are disappointed and frustrated that their holiday plans might have gone out the window. Instead of seeing the restrictions on travel as a negative, we wanted to flip this on its head and use it as an excuse to showcase all the different things you can see and do in and around Bristol.”

“There are so many amazing parts of Bristol that I don’t spend enough time in, and I think this comes down to the fact that summers are often busy with holiday plans that are further afield and lots of travelling. The lockdowns of the last year have certainly taught me to value what’s close-by, and I’ve found real solace in walking and cycling around different parts of the city, and learning about the local history.”

There are six tours to book on Wriggle right now, but there are already plans to launch more  in neighbourhoods across the city and surrounding areas in the coming weeks. The current food tours include walking routes in St. Werburghs, Easton, Clifton, and the Harbourside, as well as a cycling tour from Bristol to Bath, and a picnic at a Wild Swimming spot on the edge of Brislington. Each tour includes visits to a number of restaurants, bars and cafes, including cocktails at the Greenbank, pizza and beers at Dough in Bath, and picnic bundles from The Deli at Sandy Park.

‘Foodcation’ Tour tickets are now available to purchase through Wriggle. Each ticket includes food and drink from participating venues along the tour route, a collectable neighbourhood postcard, and a printed booklet full of information, local history and further recommendations for places to eat, drink and visit.
