“A winner…Baig is indubitably good news as a performer” – The Guardian
Bath audiences can enjoy Osman Baig’s sell-out Edinburgh Fringe show, Fake News, when it visits the Ustinov Studio for a four-night run from Wednesday 9 to Saturday 12 June.
“Hilarious... A cutting media satire which addresses relevant themes with aplomb”
– Daily Express
Listed as a “must-see” by The Guardian and The Telegraph, Fake News is the story of our time from journalist turned actor and playwright Osman Baig. Whatever you think about the news, or those who make it, prepare to think again in this one-man show that will force you to ask if there really is such a thing as bad publicity.
A budding young journalist lands a dream internship at the country’s biggest online news organisation. There, he stumbles on an earth-shattering story and – against better judgement – decides to click publish. There’s just one problem: the story is completely untrue.
Commenting on his play Fake News, Osman Baig said, “We are living in an unprecedented era in which scrutiny and discourse around the media are at equally unprecedented levels. I wrote this play because I needed to show the world that legitimate journalism truly matters - and that those who create it do so not for power or profit, but because they have a fundamental belief that no person should be denied a voice.”
Osman Baig began his career as a journalist and television producer, with staff roles covering major world news stories at CNN, Sky News and Al Jazeera, as well as BBC News and Bloomberg. He then retrained as an actor at Drama Studio London before performing in Julius Caesar and Coriolanus at the Royal Shakespeare Company and in Richard III and Boy at London’s Almeida Theatre. Fake News is Osman’s first play as a writer, working alongside Oliver Stephens in his directorial debut.
Fake News starring Osman Baig appears at the Ustinov Studio from Wednesday 9th June to Saturday 12th June. Tickets are on sale at the Theatre Royal Bath Box Office on 01225 448844 and online at www.theatreroyal.org.uk
