Bristol’s streets have become a work of art this morning as ‘Love Songs To The City’ has been unveiled by Bristol City Centre BID.

Lyrics from popular love songs have appeared to welcome shoppers, diners and workers back to the city, as restrictions continue to ease.

The streets will be filled with much missed live music today (Thursday May 20th) as buskers play alongside the song lyrics, ahead of the first weekend of indoor hospitality being open. Each musician studies at the highly renowned music University, BIMM Institute Bristol.

Made by a collective of Bristol artists and fabricators, the 20 sets of huge pink lyrics adorn silver discs and hang in King Street, Cabot Circus, Queens Road, Broadmead, Park Street and Corn Street. Visitors can explore lyrics from pop icons including Elton John, Tina Charles, Madness, The Beatles, Human League, Luther Vandross and Bob Marley alongside many other surprises.

The #LoveBristol campaign is spearheaded by the Bristol City Centre BID and follows on from their Hearts in Parks and festive Bristol ADVENTures campaigns.

Visitors can head to Visit Bristol, for a Spotify playlist to enjoy alongside the lyrics on the streets, as well as a guide to every lyric appearing across the city.

Keith Rundle, Operations Director at Bristol City Centre BID explains; “This work is all about supporting the recovery of our businesses and the city centre. We are bringing partners together to support them as they deliver a fantastic experience for all those visiting and working in all businesses across the area. It is particularly significant that for the first time this year hospitality businesses can now welcome people inside to enjoy the great diversity of offers available across the city centre.

“The City Centre BID team continues to make the city centre a safe and welcoming place to work, live and spend leisure time. Bristol is an easy city for us all to love and this next step in the #LoveBristol campaign follows on from Hearts in the Parks and Christmas Advent’ures.

We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone back to enjoy and support the businesses old and new.

“Many businesses continue to welcome their teams back to the city and we’re delighted to see them heading out to enjoy the retail and leisure offers from our many city traders.”

Bristolians and visitors to the city are invited to share their favourites using the #LoveBristol hashtag, spreading the invitation to enjoy the city safely.

The installations will be in place throughout summer, as part of a series of activations on the streets to invite everyone back to enjoy the city’s incredible music, culture, retail and food scene.

As Covid-19 lockdown restrictions start to ease, #LoveBristol is a yearlong initiative that sees the city working together to support retailers, hospitality, businesses and the community to recover from the pandemic.

The campaign is a Bristol Together initiative, led by Bristol City Centre BID alongside Visit Bristol, Business West, Cabot Circus and Broadmead BID, in partnership with the One City Economy Board and Bristol City Council.
