Breaking Bread has announced its reopening date as Thursday 15th April 2021 with the Pipe & Lovers outdoor beer garden taking bookings this week for tables under its canopies for food, drinks, all set to an excellent soundtrack.

The Pipe and Lovers will feature a brand-new kitchen menu created by Josh Eggleton, Ben Harvey and the teams at The Pony & Trap and Pasta Loco. As well as the exciting addition of a Sunday roast service!

This will be a two-phased re-opening with the Breaking Bread restaurant (a collaboration between Pasta Loco, Pasta Ripiena and The Pony & Trap) slated to re-open in the tipis when government restrictions allow in the Spring. Organisers have also announced the addition of a 150-capacity seated entertainment tent which will host events throughout the summer. Another new addition is The Team Canteen, a fully equipped kitchen and events space that will host pop ups and fundraisers, as well as providing education and training opportunities.

The Breaking Bread venues will also be available for private hire for the first time, as organisers have created packages for weddings, conferences, meetings and private parties in each of the different spaces.

Josh Eggleton, project co-founder said “It’s great to be coming back to The Downs, after such a great response last year. More than 35,000 people came to Breaking Bread over the four months we were open. We’ll be back open and ready for the relaxation of restrictions, providing a socially-distanced space to enjoy some al fresco drinks and we have a huge programme of events, initiatives and dining experiences planned in line with each phase of the reopening.

“Our community focus is going to be front and centre this year, with the Team Canteen being set up right in the middle of the site. We are hoping that it will be a really useful resource for community groups and other food organisations from across the City, helping us to give employment opportunities and training to young people and providing a space to showcase how we can make Bristol a fairer city.”

Breaking Bread was a smash hit when it first opened on The Downs in July of 2020. Thousands of Bristolians passed through its doors between July and October, drinking, dining and being merry, in a safe and socially distanced manner.

Breaking Bread’s weekly programme of independent events and shows will bring in the city’s creative performers, promoters and independent venues, with each providing a unique experience under canvas as the summer progresses.

Penny Warner, Breaking Bread project manager adds: “The expansion of our events offering and the creation of the new entertainments space opens up a whole new set of opportunities. We can offer a more diverse programme as well as giving Bristol’s independent venues, promoters and performers the opportunity to make use of this infrastructure.”

Advance bookings for The Pipe & Lovers will be live from Friday 26th March and reservations can be made via https://www.breakingbreadbristol.co.uk/ To keep up to date with the latest news and updates from Breaking Bread, be sure to follow breaking bread across social media using @BreakingBreadBristol
