The Wave was featured on BBC’s Countryfile, which led to an uptick in searches for The Wave on Visit Bristol site. International student Winnie Tsuma wrote a piece about experiencing Christmas in Bristol for Visit Britain’s Great Britain website. The team at Visit Bristol have curated a list of recipes for the Bristol From Home Cookbook which was picked up by BBC Radio Bristol and discussed on their morning show on Tuesday 26th January. Good Housekeeping posted an article that named Bristol the number 1 in Best City Breaks in the UK for 2021. Culture Trip wrote a piece on Best Boutique Hotels and included Number 38 there.
Press trips and enquiries (where coverage is forthcoming)
After sending out a press release highlighting new accommodation openings in 2021, we fielded press trip enquiries from Conde Nast Traveler (US) who are interested in staying at Thornbury Castle Hotel when restrictions allow, and Cosmopolitan Magazine and The Independent. All enquiries will be followed up when lockdown ends. The team also responded to a request from Sunday Times for hotels in Bristol for staycations this summer.

New places to stay in Bristol in 2021 and What’s On in Bristol 2021 were both sent out at the end of December 2020, which resulted in press trip enquiries and features in Great British Bucket List (above) and Bristol 24/7. A Valentine’s Day press release outlining at-home experiences, gifts and meal kits was sent to national and local press in January which saw pick up from The Sun in January (more in February’s media report).
News and networking
In January, Susie Bowers (the Visit Bristol Media Liaison Manager) attended a few virtual events including the Visit England Meet the Media event with The Telegraph, Good Morning Britain, Condé Nast Traveler US and The i Paper, and the Visit England webinar called England Together, which outlined Visit England and Visit Britain’s media strategies and content collaboration opportunities. Susie also went to the Social with Media event where the Commissioning Editor for Sunday Times, a freelance travel writer and Editor for Good Housekeeping, Red and Prima were sharing their thoughts on travel content for the coming months.
