About

Home to Elizabeth, Lady Ashcombe and the Dent-Brocklehurst family, Sudeley Castle and Gardens is a Tudor jewel with 1,000 years of history, formal gardens, events, tours and exhibitions.

Sudeley is the only private castle in England to have a queen buried within its grounds – Katherine Parr, the last of Henry VIII’s six wives. Today visitors can explore the intimate 15th-century church where she lies entombed. The castle rooms and exhibits contain many fascinating treasures, from ancient Roman times to Tudors, Victorian era and the present day.

Outside, the castle is surrounded by a breath-taking 1,200-acre estate and ten award-winning gardens. The centrepiece is the Queens Garden, so named because four of England’s queens, Anne Boleyn, Katherine Parr, Lady Jane Grey and Elizabeth I,  once walked upon the original Tudor Parterre.

The whole family can explore the castle’s fascinating past and enjoy a host of exciting events throughout the year. Children will love scaling the wooden fort and whizzing on the zip wire in the famed Adventure Playground, as well as tackling a 10-piece assault course. Discover Sudeley’s Animal Ark, where life-sized animal sculptures made from flowers, bark and natural materials will take you on a wildlife journey of across all corners of the globe.

Sudeley has two cafes that deliver tasty, locally sourced hot and cold food from our seasonal menu. The newly refurbished Old Coach House and Orangery is located on the terrace, whilst the Pavilion café can be found at the entrance / exit point and offers more relaxed dining options.

Sudeley’s Guides host daily tours and talks, including the more exclusive ‘behind the castle walls’ tours to discover the family’s private apartments.
